AMD rebounds about 4% premarket ahead of earnings as voters head to the polls
The chipmaker recovers part of Monday's 7.52% drop before its after-the-bell report, with Nasdaq-100 futures firmer than the Dow.
Advanced Micro Devices shares were up 4.16% at $486.25 as of 9:08 a.m. ET Tuesday in premarket trading, a gain of $19.41 from Monday's regular-session price of $466.84. The bounce follows a rough Monday for the chipmaker, when the stock fell $37.96, or 7.52%, from $504.80.

AMD reports third-quarter results after regular trading ends Tuesday, and investors are treating it as the next test of demand for artificial intelligence chips. Yahoo Finance noted that, as with Intel's report last week, the reaction may hinge as much on fourth-quarter guidance as on the quarter itself.
The move comes on a split morning for U.S. futures as Americans vote in the midterm elections. As of 5:06 a.m. ET, Reuters reported Dow E-minis down 219 points while Nasdaq 100 E-minis were up 130.5 points, with most chip stocks rising. Nvidia was up 1.6% in early premarket trading after four straight down sessions, according to Reuters. Apple and Palantir were lower after their own earnings reports.
Tech has been under pressure. Reuters reported that the Nasdaq-100 ended Monday more than 10% below its all-time high, which confirms a correction, as investors question heavy AI spending and the debt some companies are taking on to fund it.
Premarket prices can swing once regular trading opens at 9:30 a.m. ET, and election results this evening could add to volatility.
