Room nights grew 7% from a year earlier to 345 million, and gross bookings rose 10% to $54.5 billion, the company said. Adjusted revenue grew 9% to $9.8 billion, and adjusted earnings per share rose 17% to $4.66. The outlook was cautious. For the fourth quarter it expects room nights to grow 1% to 3% and gross bookings to grow 2% to 4%, with adjusted revenue up 0% to 2%.
Investors looked past the softer guidance. CNBC reported that consumer-facing stocks rallied after the results, with Expedia up 13% and Amazon up almost 7% at midday. Based on Yahoo Finance data, Expedia was up 13.17% at $323.41 as of 1:09 p.m. ET.
